Theron’s Monster Appetite

Charlize Theron

Monster star Charlize Theron has revealed she could have been a supermodel – if she were willing to lose a little weight.

“I had the capability to be a bigger model than I was,” says the Hollywood starlet, who paid her way through her early career with shoots. “They were always telling me, ‘Lose five pounds and you’ll be a supermodel’. But I saw modelling like waitressing – it was a way to pay for another career, and that career was dance.”

Having injured her knee aged 19, however, both dance and modelling took a backseat to Theron’s acting career. She went on to win an Oscar for her portrayal as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003 movie Monster – but her body shape continues to be an issue in her professional life.

“It’s naive and a little sweet that people think weight gain constitutes acting,” the South African actress tells NEWS24.COM. “In the case of Aileen, there were reasons for her size. She’d led a homeless life, and if you sleep under a bridge, you don’t go to the gym. Your body looks a certain way.”
