Jennifer Lopez threw husband Marc Anthony a surprise 40th birthday party at the weekend.
The 39-year-old actress arranged a sexy 1940s Cuban-themed bash – featuring a performance by burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese – and managed to keep it a secret by telling Marc she was going to be too tired to celebrate his birthday because she was competing in her first triathlon on Sunday (September 14, 2008).
Jennifer said: “Marc kept asking me, ‘What are we going to do for my birthday?’ I told him it was such a busy weekend, that I might not be able to do anything.”
After the actress-and-singer finished the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in California she jumped on a plane to New York for the party, telling her husband they were traveling to the city to attend a dinner celebrating their friend Katie Holmes’ upcoming Broadway debut in “All My Sons.”
Jennifer added to People magazine: “I can’t believe we pulled it off. He was so blown away.”
The bash was held at the exclusive Bowery Hotel, and included a salsa orchestra, mojito cocktails and showgirls in feather headdresses.
Party planner Liberty Woodman, who helped Jennifer organize the event, said: “She wanted a sexy vibe with the casino and showgirls.”
Jennifer – who has six-month-old twins Max and Emme with Marc – sang a sexy rendition of her hit “My Man” for her spouse before the couple and their children headed off for a holiday in Italy and Greece.
