U.S. television actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, who stars in “Ghost Whisperer,” reportedly turned down an offer to pose for Playboy.

“There was an offer but she declined,” Love Hewitt’s representative told Usmagazine.com.

A source reportedly said the terms of the proposal weren’t discussed. Love Hewitt recently became engaged to Scottish actor Ross McCall.

Love Hewitt’s representative earlier this week denied rumors the couple are expecting a baby, Usmagazine.com said.

“The naked body is not beautiful, male or female,” Contactmusic.com quoted her, as saying.

“I would never get my kit off for Playboy magazine. It’s so degrading. The suggestion of naked is nice, but not nude. I’d never do it for any price,” said the Sound of the Underground singer.

Nadine restated that she was very much single, saying that her erstwhile on-off boyfriend Jesse Metcalfe is not in her life anymore.

Anna Nicole Smith, but his feelings about the former Playmate turned pop icon are no joke. In serious fashion, his bunny empire will offer three upcoming Smith tributes: a 10-page pictorial in the magazine’s May issue, an hourlong retrospective on Playboy TV and an online memorial on Playboy.com.

Smith, who first appeared on the magazine’s cover in March 1992 and was named Playmate of the Year in 1993, was 39 when she died of an accidental drug overdose in February.

So what was it about the buxom blonde Texan that Hefner found so alluring?

“It was her presence in front of the camera,” he told The Associated Press Thursday, chatting in the library of his famed Playboy Mansion. “She was one of those who loved being in front of the camera and came alive in front of the camera. There was very clearly a Marilyn Monroe quality about her and that aspiration was clear from the very beginning. She talked about Marilyn Monroe all the time.”

Smith often posed like Monroe, he said. At a Halloween party in 2004, she came dressed in a “Marilyn Monroe-type outfit” accompanied by three men in tuxedos: her attorney Howard K. Stern, boyfriend Larry Birkhead and son Daniel.

“The irony in terms of Anna Nicole’s fascination with Marilyn Monroe is how successful she was in building a similar kind of career, not through acting but simply through celebrity itself,” said Hefner, in his usual silk pajamas and smoking jacket. “The tragedy is she lived large as Marilyn did and died in a very similar way.”

She was still Vickie Smith when she first caught the eye of Playboy editors, who argued over whether to include her in the magazine.

“She came here and she weighed about 160 pounds,” Hefner recalled. “We like the voluptuous ladies but not that voluptuous. It was a wonderful statement for the simple fact that beauty has no limitation in terms of size. You can be a big lady and a beautiful lady, and she was.”

With three tributes, might Playboy be opening itself to criticism for profiting from Smith’s death? Not the case, Hefner quickly replied. “It’s quite frankly celebrating her in a way that she would appreciate.”

The publishing titan turns 81 on Monday, but makes little concession to the calendar. He just celebrated his birthday with a bash in Las Vegas, and recently started work on the third season of “The Girls Next Door,” an E! reality show about life with his girlfriends Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson. Their upcoming adventures include an appearance at the Toyota Grand Prix, where Hefner will serve as grand marshal (and Wilkinson will drive a race car), and a trip to Monte Carlo at the invitation of Prince Albert, Hefner said.

And the chatter about Hef getting engaged? Just rumors, he said.

“I am in a very serious relationship with Holly,” he explained. “I love all three of the girls, but the relationship with Holly will last, certainly, for the rest of my life. Whether it leads to marriage, we will see. I’ve tried marriage twice before without great success, and at this moment, I don’t want to spoil the relationship.”

According to the Associated Press, Broward County medical examiner Dr. Joshua Perper said the autopsy tests have been completed and were supposed to be released late this week, but the Seminole Police, who have jurisdiction over the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino where Smith died, provided him with new evidence.

Gary Bitner, a spokesman for the Seminole Tribe and its police department, said the evidence provided by the tribe was turned over promptly.

“This is not delayed evidence this is just additional evidence that has come to light during the course of the investigation,” Bitner said.

Perper’s secretary said the autopsy would be released in the next week or two.

Smith, 39, died on February 8 after being found unconscious in her Florida hotel.

A day later, Perper released a preliminary autopsy that showed no immediate indication of a drug overdose and no sign of major external injuries on the former Playboy Playmate and Guess model.

Automobile accidents, drug overdoses, homicides, a plane crash — all have claimed the lives of Playmates. The cause of Smith’s death is still unclear. “It’s sad how many girls we’ve lost,” said Peter Gowland, who photographed a number of centerfolds for Playboy in the 1950s and 60s with the help of his wife.

In 1968, Gowland photographed Paige Young. In 1974, she was dead of a drug overdose.
Jayne Mansfield, another Playmate he photographed, died in a car crash in 1967 at 34.

“It’s a curse to be beautiful,” Gowland said.

More than 600 women have graced Playboy’s centerfold since the magazine began publishing in the 1950s. Their lives after the magazine have been both in and out of the spotlight, but their limited number and Playboy’s wide circulation has meant that the death of one can become bombshell news.

Perhaps before Smith, the most headline-grabbing death of a Playmate was that of 20-year-old Dorothy Stratten. Just months after she became the magazine’s Playmate of the Year in 1980, she was murdered by her jealous estranged husband.

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has said he and others never really got over Stratten’s death. The magazine ran a tribute to her and movies were made about her life.

Eve Meyer, a 1955 Playmate, was one of more than 550 people killed when two airliners collided on takeoff at Tenerife in the Canary Islands in 1977. She was 46. More recently, Ellen Louise Maligo, known in Playboy as “Star Stowe,” was found murdered at 40 in Coral Springs in 1997.

Marilyn Monroe, the cover girl for the magazine’s inaugural issue, famously died at 36 from a 1962 overdose of sleeping pills.

Tonya Crews, Carol Willis and 1970 Playmate of the Year Claudia Jennings all died in car accidents in the 1960s and 70s while still in their 20s. Playmate Willy Rey, pictured on Playboy’s first stock certificates, was 23 when she died of a drug overdose in 1973.

Twenty-eight-year-old Playmate Elisa Bridges died in 2002 after being found unresponsive in bed. Playboy said she died of natural causes, but a coroner’s report said Bridges died of an accidental drug overdose.

“There’ve been some that do too much booze and too much drugs, just as in the general population,” said former Playboy editor Gretchen Edgren, author of “The Playmate Book: Six Decades of Centerfolds.”

A page on Playboy’s Web site is dedicated to remembering Smith.

“Perhaps Billy Joel should write a sequel to his song ‘Only the Good Die Young’ simply changing the last word to ‘Beautiful.’ We’ll miss you Vicki,” photo editor Gary Cole wrote on the site’s blog, using Smith’s real first name.

As more and more details surrounding the life and death of Anna Nicole Smith make their way to the public, the circumstances around the former Playboy Playmate’s death, as well as who might be the father of Anna Nicole’s infant daughter, Dannielynn, have been mysterious at best. Now, the public is getting a glimpse into Anna Nicole Smith’s final moments, as a tape recording of a call from an Indian tribe’s police department requesting paramedics was released on Tuesday.

The phone call, a 31-second call between the Seminole tribal police department and the Hollywood Police Department illustrates that the Seminole police force needed Hollywood paramedics to assist Anna Nicole Smith, who had been found unconscious in her hotel room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on the Seminole reservation. The Associated Press printed a transcript of the phone call, which heard a woman from the Seminole Police asking for help in Room 607. “She’s not breathing, and she’s not responsive. She’s, um, actually Anna Nicole Smith,” said the Seminole police officer. A woman at the Hollywood Police Department replied with, “Oh, OK.”

The Associated Press quoted officials who said they managed to respond to the call in just six minutes. Anna Nicole Smith would be pronounced dead roughly one hour later at Memorial Regional Hospital three miles away. Though Hollywood Police Dept. Tony Rode played the tape for the media to hear, he referred all questions about the Anna Nicole Smith case to the Seminole Police Department, which did not immediately return a call for a statement. The Associated Press quoted Capt. Rode, who said, “This investigation belongs to the Seminole Police Department. You are looking at the extent of our role.”

As the saga of Anna Nicole Smith continues to play out, Smith’s boyfriend, Howard K. Stern, has been the focus of a large amount of media attention. While Stern’s comments to the media have been few and far between, Howard Stern’s sister, Bonnie Stern, has spoken to the press on his behalf. Stern said her brother was not with Anna Nicole Smith when she said, but he had been there earlier in the morning. At the time, Anna Nicole Smith was running a 105 degree fever, and a nurse had been “icing her down” earlier in the day, AP reports. Bonnie Stern went on to say that, “When he left her, she was sleeping.” Stern had only left Anna Nicole Smith’s side for around two hours when he received word that Smith was dead. While Howard K. Stern has not spoken to the media, Bonnie Stern revealed to the Associated Press that, “They had plans to get a yacht and to buy an engagement ring. They were going to get married Feb. 27. It was going to be a real marriage.”

Bonnie Stern also offered her opinion on what killed Anna Nicole Smith. “Her immunity was so low. She was so depressed. She kept getting sick and her body just probably broke down.” As Bonnie Stern offered that opinion, Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper quoted women’s health specialist Dr. Sarah Jarvis, who said, “To take so many different drugs is unhealthy. Some anti-depressants can cause heart problems after surgery. Valium can cause respiratory problems. If an unfit person has surgery and takes drugs, it’s possible they would have complications,” referring to the plastic surgery operations she had after giving birth to five-month-old Dannielynn. But while today’s focus has been on the cause of Anna Nicole Smith’s death, yet another suitor as come forward to claim that he had an affair with Anna Nicole Smith and that he may be the father of young Dannielynn.

Alexander Denk, a man who had served as bodyguard to Anna Nicole Smith, told to television show Extra that he had an affair with Smith and that there is a chance he is the father of Dannielynn. Denk was quoted by the British publication Metro as telling Extra, “She always told me she wanted to have her kids with me,” adding that there was “always a possibility” has was the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter. Mean, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor, said he will file a paternity challenge to gain custody of Dannielynn, even if it costs his marriage with Zsa Zsa Gabor. “If the court rules in my favor, I will go to the Bahamas and pick up the child,” though Von Anhalt said he would ask for a DNA test.

While former lovers and new potential fathers of Dannielynn Stern make their way out of the woodwork, the two original potential fathers, Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead, continue to have a war of words. Larry Birkhead told the Daily News that, “Howard has never liked me and he never wanted me and Anna to be together. After she got pregnant, things went quickly downhill because of his difference of opinion on several matters.” Birkhead also recalled how he had tried to save Anna Nicole Smith from a self-destructive lifestyle, and that Anna Nicole left him because of his attempts to intervene. “I watched over her to make sure she was safe, and once I was basically pushed to the side, “I had no control over what she did or anyone else around her did.”

Bonnie Stern fired back on behalf of her brother, saying that “there were times of some intimacy,” but that, “Larry Birkhead was not her boyfriend.”

The editor-in-chief of Playboy Indonesia went on trial Thursday on charges of publishing indecent material — a crime that carries a maximum punishment of more than 2 1/2 years in prison.

A prosecutor told the South Jakarta District Court that Erwin Arnada oversaw photo shoots and published revealing pictures of female models in underwear, some showing partially exposed breasts.

“The models also had inviting expressions on their faces,” said Resni Muchtar, adding that the magazine included lascivious and lustful comments.

The defense, which was not required to enter a plea, said it would respond to the charge at a later hearing.

Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim nation, with some 190 million practicing a mostly moderate form of the faith.

Unlike its American version and editions in dozens of other countries, Indonesian Playboy contains no nudity.

The trial was adjourned until Dec. 14, when witnesses will be called.

Arnada said after the hearing that “as a good citizen he would follow the legal process accordingly.”

Tabloids in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, feature more explicit photos and stories that Playboy’s. And pornographic films on video, though illegal, are sold more or less openly at stores across the country.

Indonesian versions of Western magazines FHM and Maxim, which also contain photos of women in underwear, have been on sale for several years with no outcry like that over Playboy, seen as an icon of American cultural influence.
