Joining Melrose Place, Gossip Girl and 90210, producer Ashton Kutcher’s new show The Beautiful Life looks pretty similar to everything else on the CW. Plus, it’s got the whole “starring Mischa Barton” thing to overcome.

Which may explain the whole new tune-in campaign for TBL: Ads with naked people.

Makes sense. Melrose Place already called dibs on “Tuesday’s the New Humpday” and 90210 grabbed the low-hanging testicular angle, so what other moderately salacious thing is there, really?

Since Mischa is missing from the naked lineup (as well as Elle Macpherson and Nico Tortorella), you’ll just have to make due with Sarah Paxton, Corbin Bleu, Ashley Madekwe and Ben Hollingsworth.

But really, now that you’ve seen them naked, is there any reason to tune in?

Mischa Barton’s recent hospital stay was due to “suicidal” actions, claims a source very close to the star’s drama. Also, the insider asserts, the attempt may have coincided with Mischa’s bosses at the CW’s The Beautiful Life deciding they no longer desired her services.

Even though Barton’s now out and about, though not very publicly, we’re told she’s still recovering from a very dark period.

“She tried to kill herself,” claims the source close to Barton, who also asserts that Mischa had also been let go—and later rehired—from the soap.

“She was being crazy that day [when she went to Cedars Sinai Medical Center],” says another knowledgeable source, who had direct dealings with Ms. B right before she entered Cedars in Los Angeles, reportedly involuntarily under a psychiatric hold, for “medical reasons.”

“Absolutely false,” insists Barton’s rep, “your source is far from knowledgeable, as nothing they’ve told you is true, inclusive of the suicide attempt.”

Mischa Barton has been told to gain weight to keep her role in a new US TV show.

Former “The O.C.” actress Mischa has agreed to pile on the pounds after producers voiced concerns she had become too skinny.

Mischa is understood to only be allowed to keep her part of Sonia, a model in “A Beautiful Life,” if she can keep her weight up.

A source said: “The producers are very mindful that their target audience is teenage girls so it’s important not to send the wrong message. Mischa has the part on condition she does not lose weight – they want her to put weight on if she can.”

Concerns were raised last year after the 23-year-old actress was pictured looking gaunt.

She previously said she is “obsessed with Pilates,” but was quick to dismiss any concerns over her weight on her blog.

She wrote: “Just so you guys know, I’m happier and healthier than ever. I’ve just been watching what I eat.”

“I still love my Pilates and yoga, and have cut back on fatty foods a bit. My time in India and Paris really just helped me lose a little bit of weight but there’s nothing drastic going on.”

Mischa has described her new character as: “A b***hy model-type character, like it’s a totally different character for me.”

“A Beautiful Life,” produced by Ashton Kutcher, is based on his early experiences as a male model. The program is set to air in the US later this year.

British-born teen idol Mischa Barton said Wednesday she had no problem baring all for a sex scene in her latest film, calling herself a believer in “true love.”

The 22-year-old former “The O.C.” star was in Tokyo promoting “Closing the Ring,” a love story about a dying fighter pilot who tries to return a ring to his girlfriend who gets it back only 50 years later.

In the film directed by Richard Attenborough, best known for Oscar-winning biopic “Gandhi,” Barton plays young Ethel Ann who is never able to fully recover from the death of her betrothed, Teddy Gordon, played by Stephen Amell.

“I don’t have a problem with nudity,” the Hollywood actress said of her sex scene.

“Giving herself to Teddy, it’s not your average sex scene. The nudity is about her innocence. There is something tragic and heartbreaking about it,” she said.

“Perhaps to contemporary women it seems a bit more far-fetched but I believe in eternal love, in true love like that,” she said. “I mean the greatest example is the director (Attenborough) and his wife.”

But the star also said she was at odds with certain aspects of the character she portrayed.

“The only thing I don’t agree with what happens to Ethel Ann is that she allows to embitter herself,” Barton said. “She needed to learn to let go and she couldn’t do that because she couldn’t accept that.”

“People are affected by tragedy and war in their own way, and some people are just permanently affected by it,” she said.

Barton, whose credits include cameos in hit movies “The Sixth Sense” and “Notting Hill,” was earlier this month sentenced to three years probation after being caught driving drunk and in possession of marijuana.

Mischa Barton is reportedly set to escape spending time behind bars for driving under the influence.

The actress has apparently agreed to serve three-years probabtion term instead of a spell behind bars, according to US magazine People.

Mischa will plea no contest for DUI, pay a small fine and attend three months of an alcohol education class.

The marijuana possession charge against the star will be dropped, due to the small amount found and another charge of driving without a license will be reduced to a traffic violation, according to the source.

Mischa was arrested in Los Angeles last December after Police spotted her driving in two lanes at the same time and not signaling when making a turn.

Back in January, Mischa told a US radio show: ‘Obviously I’m 100 percent responsible for my actions in this case. I’m really disappointed in myself. I don’t know what to say about it, except that I’m not perfect, and I just don’t ever intend to do something this stupid again.’

Actress Mischa Barton has been charged with drink-driving, cannabis possession and driving without a licence, Los Angeles prosecutors have said.

The ex-star of The OC was pulled over in December when police said they saw her car straddling two road lanes and failing to signal when making a turn.

Barton, 22, spent about seven hours in a West Hollywood jail before being released on $10,000 (£5,005) bail.

She will appear in court on Thursday to face the charges.

Barton’s lawyer, Anthony V Salerno, said in a statement that he was pleased the star “received no special treatment” from the District Attorney.

“The DA’s office is to be commended for treating this case the same as it would any other matter,” he added.

Barton played Marissa Cooper on teen drama The OC from 2003 until 2006, when her character died in a car crash.

The London-born actress has also appeared in several movies, including The Sixth Sense and St Trinian’s, plus forthcoming film Virgin Territory.

Mischa Barton has hired top publicist Howard Bragman to represent her as she battles negative stories following her recent arrest for driving under the influence.

Bragman’s last high-profile client was former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Isaiah Washington, who hired the PR during his gay-slur controversy last year.

Barton, 21, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, possessing marijuana and driving without a license in Los Angeles at Christmas.

She was released on bail and now awaits sentencing.

The former “O.C.” actress is currently single, but isn’t worried about finding a new guy because her beloved pet pooch Charlie is the main “man” in her life.

She said in an interview with You magazine: “My dog is always my boyfriend. Charlie is the best – I got him when I broke up with Brandon Davis. He will always be my number one man and he knows that. The dogs are a huge part of my downtime. Actually, it’s shocking how much you can become absorbed by them.”
