Katy Perry says men are ”like artichokes.”

The “I Kissed A Girl” singer – who recently split from her boyfriend, Gym Class Heroes star Travis McCoy – blasted boys as she performed in New York this week.

Katy told the crowd: “Men are like artichokes, it’s impossible to find the heart. You can be searching and searching but only get the tough stuff!”

“Girls have an intuition, they can tell when a player doesn’t have a heart. I’m using my intuition.”

The tastiest part of an artichoke is the base of the plant which is called the “heart” and is hard to find as it is buried under layers of thick leaves.

Katy also blamed her hormones for her man trouble, saying she can’t help “freaking out.”

The 24-year-old pop star added: “How many girls have freaked out in front of their boyfriends? I suffer from Satan’s period. It’s a beast.”

In January, following her split from Travis, Katy revealed she has sworn off men for a whole year.

She said: “I’ve actually taken a vow of celibacy this year. No kissing anyone. Well, just my cat, Kitty Purry.”

Katy Perry is on tour throughout the US in April and May and comes to Europe in June.

The “Thinking Of You” singer is so scared of having a baby she constantly consumes contraceptives to avoid any possibility of pregnancy.

“I basically chew my birth control tablets – I chew them like vitamin C, I’m like, ‘nomnomnomnom.’”

The 24-year-old star – who split from Gym Class Heroes star Travis McCoy last year – is too focused on her career to even consider the possibility of starting a family.

She said in an interview with Paper Magazine: “It’s one of those things where I have no energy left to give to anybody. It doesn’t matter if I love them or not. I give it all away on tour and when I’m meeting people.”

“This is a really important time in my life. During the next two or three years, if I do things right, I will have a real career, and if I don’t, well, I’ll just be that girl who kissed a girl.”

Katy is pleased with her success – her single “I Kissed a Girl” was at the top of the US charts for seven consecutive weeks – but is worried her “15 minutes of fame” could soon be over.

She added: “There are about five hundred other girls who are trying to and dying to be in my position – I can’t take anything for granted.”

The “I Kissed a Girl” singer wants to pay homage to the late Queen front man by getting a giant design of his head inked on her back.

She said: “I nearly got a huge tattoo of Freddie Mercury’s face on my back a few years ago. It’s probably for the best that I didn’t get it done, but I still want to do it.”

Katy Perry has blasted rumors she has had breast implants.

The “I Kissed A Girl” singer is furious with reports her chest is not natural, and insists she has far more important things to spend her money on than cosmetic surgery.

Katy said: “How could people think these are fake? Look at them. Ask them! They are as real as real can be. One hundred per cent genuine and untouched… well sort of.”

“I would never spend money on fake boobs. Shoes, maybe. A handbag, maybe. But plastic t**s – no way!”

However, the 24-year-old star was keen to point out she has no problem with people who do have plastic surgery, and refused to rule out having some improvements done in the future.

‘I wish they had asked me to host Antiques Roadshow when Michael Aspel left. It would be my dream job,’ Katy tells The Sun.

‘When I was a kid my dad would wake me up every Saturday morning and we’d go out looking for stuff.

‘Plus my mum was an antiques dealer in London, so I guess some of it trickled down to me.’

Katy, who caused controversy over pictures of her posing with a knife, recently presented the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool.

The “I Kissed A Girl” singer will make her presenting debut at the ceremony, which takes place in Liverpool, UK, next month, and couldn’t believe organizers wanted her to take on such an important role.

Katy – who is nominated for Best New Act and Most Addictive Track at the awards – said: “I was so excited when I heard that I was nominated for two awards, but when I was asked to host the show I wet myself, Fergie-style.”

“To follow in the footsteps of previous hosts Christina Aguilera, Tom Jones, Diddy and Snoop Dogg at this prestigious event is an incredible honor – do they know what they are getting into? I just hope that I don’t spill my cocktail!”

Katy will be joined by her regular group of musicians, as organizers look for a “more relaxed and informal event with a musical twist” at this year’s ceremony.

The band will act as the show’s “house band” for the night, taking to the stage to perform with Katy and the other performers and award presenters.

Artists just confirmed to hand out prizes include Sugababes, Solange Knowles, Grace Jones, and Travis McCoy, Gym Class Heroes singer and boyfriend of Katy.

Performers at the awards, which take place on November 6, include The Killers, Pink, Kid Rock, Duffy and Beyonce Knowles.

Katy Perry says she has kissed a girl – but insists she isn’t a lesbian.

Perry, 23, sings the lyrics “I kissed a girl and I liked it” in her smash hit single I Kissed a Girl — but she is certain that women aren’t to her taste, and she is happy with her boyfriend.

She says, “I have kissed a girl, but I’m not a lesbian. I have a boyfriend. I just didn’t want to sing another typical relationship song. Nobody told me to sing the song.

“It wasn’t done for anyone else’s satisfaction. People have sung about all sorts of things in pop. Look at Prince and Madonna.”

Despite reports to the contrary, Katy insists her parents are overjoyed at her success.

She added, “They have their opinions about some of my songs, but in general they are happy for me. They come to my gigs and show support.

“My upbringing was strict in that I wasn’t allowed to listen to New Kids On The Block, but it wasn’t horrible. There were just a few weird rules.”
