Katie Holmes was back on the Melbourne set of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark earlier today.

It was the end of a busy work week for the actress, but she didn’t seem be minding the long hours as she laughed with a costar between takes.

Her husband Tom, meanwhile, left Australia after recently taking a cruise with their mutual friend James Packer. He’s back in LA, where he grabbed dinner at Cut last night.

Tom also checked out a Beyonce show at the Staples Center earlier this week. He was apparently spotted rocking out to “Single Ladies,” despite his favorite concert buddy being Down Under.

It was only a matter of time before Katie Holmes got in touch with her Dark side.

She of the rolled jeans and fashionista toddler has signed on to star in Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a thriller written by Pan’s Labyrinth and Hobbit mastermind Guillermo del Toro.

A rep for Mrs. Tom Cruise confirmed the casting to E! News.

The adrenaline-pumping flick is based on a TV movie that aired on ABC back in 1973, which centered on a girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend, only to realize that they are not the only occupants of the abode.

Holmes will be heading Down Under, to the land of the former Mrs. Cruise, for the project: The film shoots this summer in Melbourne.

In the day’s other casting coups, Robert De Niro is talking to Edward Norton (again); James McAvoy, Elizabeth Banks and Laura Linney get blacked out; Dwayne Johnson is a Fast talker; Steve Coogan and Rosario Dawson get mythic and Christopher Walken gets, well, Val Kilmer.

The couple invited their family and closest friends to their Los Angeles home to celebrate Suri turning three.

A source said: “They just wanted to keep it small and make it fun for Suri and her friends.”

As well as sparing no expense on her party, Tom and Katie are spending $1 million on her education.

The couple are so desperate to ensure their child has a well-rounded upbringing, they have splashed out on classes including foreign language, art and dance.
A source said: “It doesn’t matter what Suri is doing, Tom wants her to be able to do it better than any other child. All parents think that their kids are special, but Tom and Katie firmly believe Suri is gifted.”

“She is learning French and Spanish and has a tutor she sees once a week.”

“Suri has shown a real love of dancing, so Tom and Katie are encouraging her as much as possible. She practices ballet, tap and modern dance for hours, nearly every day.”

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going camping.

The Hollywood couple are planning to take their two-year-old daughter Suri on a budget holiday across the US when Tom finishes promoting his new movie “Valkyrie” at the end of the month.

But while Tom is taking the trip to “bond” with his family, they won’t be alone – a religious adviser and a security team will accompany the trio at all times.

A source said: “They’ll be accompanied by a friend from the Church of Scientology, as Tom never likes to be too far away from his religion. They will also have security camped down the road to keep any unwelcome people at bay.

“They are certainly likely to cause a bit of a frenzy. But the whole point of them moving away from luxury holidays is to do things as a normal family.”

Another source added to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “This is what Tom wants for Suri. He doesn’t want her to miss out on the things he and Katie enjoyed as kids, just because she is growing up in the spotlight.”

Tom, 46, reportedly started planning the trip when he spent time in the Brazilian jungle while in South America earlier this year.

He and Katie often went camping before the birth of their daughter and can’t wait to spend time in the great outdoors again.

Katie said: “We love the outdoors. Once when we were camping Tom made his pasta carbonara for me.

“He knows exactly how to do it. A pinch of this, a pinch of that. He has a recipe, but he also kind of improvises by himself. You have to do the egg at a certain time.”

But the 30-year-old former “Dawson’s Creek” star admitted she wouldn’t be helping her husband with the campfire cooking.

She said: “I don’t really cook that much, though I do make cupcakes.”

Lindsay Lohan is feuding with Katie Holmes.

An insider said: “If that was Lindsay’s impression, it was a mistake. She was always going to be inside the magazine.”

Katie is not the first celebrity Lindsay has waged war against. She is rumored to have scrawled obscene graffiti about “Lost In Translation” star Scarlett Johansson on a New York nightclub bathroom wall.

She was also engaged in a war of words with “Lizzy Maguire” star Hilary Duff after they dated singer Aaron Carter at the same time in 2004, though they later patched up their differences.

Her appearance in US sitcom “Ugly Betty” was shortened to four episodes from six amid rumors she had argued with its main star America Ferrera.

Katie Holmes wants to invite people who are rude about her family to dinner.

The 30-year-old actress – who has two-year-old daughter Suri with her husband Tom Cruise – insists people would retract their horrible remarks if they spent time in her home.

She said: “Sometimes I think I would say, ‘Why don’t you come over and have dinner? See what there is to see.’”

Katie admits she finds it hard when people spread rumors about Suri – shortly after she was born rumors circulated Katie’s pregnancy was an elaborate hoax and that Suri didn’t exist – and is determined to protect her daughter at all costs.

Katie – who has previously admitted she had a crush on Tom, 46, after she saw his 1986 movie “Top Gun” – claims she always knew she would marry the star.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are reportedly considering starring in new comedy movie ”Food Fight.”

The married couple – who have a two-year-old daughter Suri together – are set to make their first on-screen appearance together in the film, which tells the story of an arrogant New York chef who is forced to cook in a school cafeteria.

The program’s executive producer Greg Berlanti, who previously worked with Katie on “Dawson’s Creek,” asked the actress to take the role as he knew it would help to boost ratings.

Greg said: “I begged her and she said, ‘I’d love to.’”

He revealed Katie’s lawyer character will appear in the episode “a significant amount.”

Katie will also show off her vocal talents and dance moves.

Steve McPherson – president of ABC, the US TV network that airs “Eli Stone” – said: “There’s actually some singing and dancing she does and she’s exquisite. I saw her do a read-through and she was fabulous.”

Katie began shooting the episode yesterday (July 16, 2008), and the program’s main star Jonny Lee Miller is delighted to be working with the actress.

He told America’s OK! magazine: “It’s really going to help us, apart from the fact that she’s extremely hard working and really, really nice person to have around the set.”

“We did 17 hours yesterday, most of her time was spent dancing and then we had a big long scene to do and she did not bat an eyelid.”

The episode is due to be broadcast in October.

It was previously claimed Katie’s husband Tom Cruise was set to make a guest appearance on the series, after he was seen visiting the set with Katie and their two-year-old daughter Suri.
