The accolades keep coming for America Ferrera. The Emmy-winning star of “Ugly Betty” is now the Hispanic Woman of the Year, the Hollywood Reporter and Billboard announced Thursday.

The publications will honor Ferrera and the 25 most powerful Hispanic women in film, television and music at their inaugural Hispanic Women in Entertainment breakfast at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Tuesday.

Ferrera “is a leader for all women, but especially those in the Hispanic community,” publisher John Kilcullen said in a statement.
He said the 23-year-old actress is “dedicated to advancing the position of Hispanics in television and film.”

“It’s an honor to be in such esteemed company,” Ferrera said in a statement. “And it’s a thrill to see talented women recognized for their work behind the camera.”

Ferrera has won Golden Globe, Emmy and Screen Actors Guild awards for her portrayal of Betty Suarez on the ABC show.

Supermodel Kate Moss and actress Sienna Miller ended up in a foul-mouthed fighting over actor Rhys Ifans, when they met at a mutual friend’s reception.

Sienna arrived at the reception in London with Rhys, while Kate was accompanied by a new guy called Jamie Hince and best friend Sadie Frost.

Sources have revealed that after the two women had taken some drinks, they were entangled in a catfight.

“Kate had a go at Sienna and accused her of stealing her style. She was ranting on about how Sienna was now trying to steal her lifestyle and her friends too. It was really cutting and everyone was listening to them,” the Sun quoted a source, as saying.

“A few drinks had been sunk by the time Kate said it and Sienna had plucked up some Dutch courage too. She gave Kate as good as she got,” the source said.

Kate and Rhys had been friends for years, and it is alleged that because of Sienna that their friendship broke.

It might have been billed as a rehearsal, but Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band showed 3,000 fans he still has the magic. The show on Monday at the oceanfront Convention Hall was the first of two benefit rehearsals for Springsteen and his band, who are about to embark on their first tour together in four years to support their new album, “Magic,” due out Oct. 2.

“We’re going to run through some things, some new things, some old things. There may be some mistakes — but I doubt it,” Springsteen warned the crowd. Before the show ended two hours and 21 songs later, Springsteen would chuckle, “Well, so there were a few mistakes.”

Not that any errors mattered to the faithful, who paid $100 a ticket. Despite the many balding heads and paunchy middles, the audience greeted nearly every song with enthusiasm that ranged from pandemonium to delirium.

Springsteen, 58, responded with equal energy in covering three decades of work. He delighted the fans not only with his vocals and some harmonica solos, but when trading guitar riffs with longtime band members Steve Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren.

A second benefit rehearsal was to be held Tuesday at the oceanfront Convention Hall, in this city made famous through his songs. A third was scheduled for Friday at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford.

Asbury Park and the boardwalk where the Convention Hall is located have been featured prominently in the New Jerseyan’s work. His first album was titled “Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.,” and the boardwalk Casino was the scene of the title track video for his 1987 “Tunnel of Love” album. Blocks away is the famed Stone Pony nightclub, where Springsteen has performed many times.

Springsteen offered political commentary when introducing “Livin’ in the Future” off the latest album, referring to terror suspect renditions and “illegal wiretapping.” “This is about the things you didn’t think could happen,” Springsteen said.

While the six songs off the new album got warm responses, none got the instantaneous ovation that greeted the opening chords of his greatest hits, including “Born to Run,” “No Surrender,” “Promised Land,” “She’s the One” and “The Rising.”

The 10-member band closed with “American Land,” featuring a two-accordian attack from keyboardists Danny Federici and Roy Bittan.

Fans quickly made the two shows sellouts last week, eager for the first chance in four years to hear the Garden State’s favorite son perform with the E Street Band. Tickets for the Friday show go on sale on Tuesday at noon.

Before the show, several generations of fans gathered in warm sunshine on the boardwalk outside the hall. Maida Webster, 63, was attending her 20th Springsteen show with one of her regular concert-going comrades, her daughter.

“I think it’s rare that you get any musician who appeals to so many generations,” said Dara Webster, 34, of Westport, Conn. Her mother, a retired social worker from New Canaan, Conn., said, “I think he speaks from the heart. He’s down to earth.”

Aside from the atmospheric title track, “Magic” returns Springsteen to rock ‘n’ roll, and all 11 songs are new. He released a solo acoustic effort, “Devils & Dust,” in 2005 and the folk-inspired “The Seeger Sessions” last year.

“Magic” is the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s first album with his longtime bandmates since the Sept. 11-inspired “The Rising” in 2002.

Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice is reportedly getting set to make guest appearances with burlesque dance troupe The Pussycat Dolls.

If the reports are true, then Posh would join the list of stars who have already taken a turn on stage with the group. These include Carmen Electra, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.

A source revealed that the group had been ‘blown away’ by Posh ever since she landed in the US, and they think that she has the perfect figure for their group.

“They’ve been blown away by Victoria since she arrived in LA. They love her style and think she has the perfect figure for the group. They are all huge Spice Girl fans and can’t wait to have her on stage with them,” the Daily Mail quoted the source, as saying.

Ancer and singer Jessica Sutta, 25, told the Daily Star that of all the Spice Girls, she personally preferred Posh. “I love Victoria! When I was 14, my mum actually bought me a Posh doll because she was my favourite Spice Girl,” she said.

“I still have the doll up in my house and I’m definitely going to see the Spice Girls concert in Los Angeles and get the doll signed. I have also been practising my Posh pout!”

The Emmys got edgy as an off-color “Saturday Night Live” video featuring Justin Timberlake and strategically placed gift boxes was honored at the creative arts ceremony.

“(Blank) in a Box,” last December’s fake music video performed by Timberlake and “SNL” cast member Andy Samberg, is about wrapping a certain part of the male anatomy and presenting it to a loved one as a holiday present.

“I think it’s safe to say that when we first set out to make this song, we were all thinking `Emmy!’” Samberg said in accepting the award Saturday for best original music and lyrics.

“The other thing we were thinking was, `Hey! Here’s this young up and comer, Justin Timberlake, who is clearly very talented and could clearly use a break,’” Samberg said. “So, Justin, if you’re out there, congrats to you, kid.’”

The video, which beat out competition that included two songs from a musical edition of Scrubs,” became an Internet sensation. It garnered millions of views on YouTube and NBC’s Web site, which posted an un-bleeped version.

The Creative Arts Emmys, which recognize technical and other achievements for the 2006-07 season, will air Sept. 15 on E!, the night before the Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox.

Timberlake was elsewhere Saturday: He had a concert scheduled in Tacoma, Wash. But his tour takes him to Los Angeles on Primetime Emmys night, raising the possibility he could perform “Box” at the ceremony.

As Samberg arrived at the creative arts awards, he told The Associated Press that he had yet to be asked by the TV academy to perform the song with Timberlake on the Fox broadcast— but he was willing, he said.

The four-hour-plus ceremony got more censor-worthy jolts from veteran actress Elaine Stritch and stand-up comic Kathy Griffin.
Stritch, 82, who won for a guest shot on the sitcom “30 Rock,” said that, even after a lifetime in show business, winning felt “un-(blanking)-believable.” And Griffin, a winner for her reality series “My Life on the D-List,” noted, “I guess hell froze over!”

“A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus,” Griffin said, going on to hold up her Emmy and proclaim, “This award is my god now!”

Despite the irreverence, both women generated huge laughter and received big applause from the crowd in the downtown Shrine Auditorium.

Besides Stritch, three other actors received awards for series guest roles: Leslie Caron for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” John Goodman for “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” and Stanley Tucci for “Monk.”

“I think I was nominated in 1951 for the most promising newcomer. I’m glad I finally realized my potential,” Caron said.
Spike Lee’s New Orleans documentary, “When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts,” received three awards, including a directing trophy.

“Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” won a leading five awards. The film, which chronicles events leading up to the assassination of Sitting Bull and the Sioux massacre at Wounded Knee Creek in 1890, is up for more Emmy honors, including best TV movie, next weekend.

“This project has been a labor of love and a labor of conscience for everyone who worked on it,” said executive producer Dick Wolf.

Entertainment industry executive Rich Frank, former president of Television Academy, received the Syd Cassyd Founders Award.
HBO collected the most trophies, 15, followed by NBC with 12, CBS with nine and Cartoon Network with eight. Fox earned seven awards, PBS six and ABC four.

Latino comedian George Lopez reveals that he considers actress Sandra Bullock to be his “guardian angel” after she saved him from an early death.

The comedian took to the bottle in the mid-1990s when he was going through a bad phase of life, and at that time it was Bullock who gave him the opportunity to star in his own TV show named ‘The George Lopez Show’.

Bullock produced the U.S. sitcom, and the show turned his fortune around.

Since then he considers Bullock his “guardian angel”.

“I grew up where you could visually see people wasting their lives and the pattern was kind of laid out for me for drinking your life away or not believing what you could do,” Contactmusic quoted Lopez, as saying.

“I hit a hard time in the mid-90s, where I was self abusing with alcohol and then Sandra Bullock turned that around.

“She was my guardian angel, definitely. I’d lived unhealthy and I just kind of accepted the way I felt and kind of adjusted to the fact that I was deteriorating from the time I was a kid at 18, through my 20s and 30s.

“I didn’t want to become what the people I grew up with had become, which was abusing the system, using excuses for not succeeding, living off the state and raising these kids who had no respect for anybody,” he added.

Spanish heartthrob Antonio Banderas has reportedly been signed up by Marks and Spencer to be their new face.

According to a Marketing Week magazine report, the ‘Mask of Zorro’ star will now be seen in the chain’s pre-Christmas campaign in which he will appear alongside Twiggy and Erin O’Connor.

If the reports are true, then Banderas will have the honour of being the first male star of the M and S campaign.

“Banderas will the first male star of the campaign and it is expected the ad will focus on menswear as well as womenswear for the first time since the campaign was launched in 2005,” The Sun quoted the report, as saying.

However, M and S has refused to confirm or deny the rumours.

The chain’s Christmas commercial last year featured Dame Shirley Bassey singing a cover of the Pink track ‘Get the Party Started’.

Three years after Justin Timberlake pulled down Janet Jackson’s top to flash her breast at the 2004 Super Bowl, the incident dubbed ‘Nipplegate’ has topped a poll of the ‘25 Biggest Celebrity Scandals since 1982′.

According to Entertainment Weekly magazine which compiled the list, the incident gave enough ammunition to people already forming the opinion that ‘Hollywood was polluting kids’ minds’.

“With nearly 90 million people watching, many of them children, the incident became a flash point for family-values groups who had long argued that Hollywood was polluting kids’ minds – and now they had proof,” the mag states. Coming in close on Timberlake and Jackson’s heels was Mel Gibson with his alcoholic anti-Semitic rant in July 2006.

Gibson took second place on the list.

The honeymoon is over, but Eva Longoria is not satisfied with her brief Caribbean retreat.

The ‘Desperate Housewives’ star, who married basketball ace Tony Parker on July 7 in Paris, jetted off to the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos for a low-key honeymoon.

However, confessing that she didn’t want to return to work so early, Longoria said that she wanted an extended honeymoon.

“I wanted a longer honeymoon. I didn’t want to come back to work so soon,” People quoted her, as telling Entertainment Tonight.

The Latina also added that since she and Tony have to stay in different cities due to work commitments, they make it a point to meet once in two weeks, regardless of where they are in the world.

“Tony and I make each other a priority, so we travel a lot. He was off for two days, and he flew home from Paris to see me and then flew back. I’ve done that many a time,” she said.

“I went for dinner to Geneva, because I was off for one day. I flew to Geneva, had dinner with him and flew back. We just can’t stand to be apart,” she added.

Supermodel turned talk show host Tyra Banks has split with her manager, Benny Medina.

According to a joint statement, Medina insisted that while his Handprint Entertainment will no longer be taking care of Banks’ career, he was looking forward to future ventures with her.

“Tyra Banks is a highly regarded artist, entrepreneur and producer, and I respect her vision for developing her own bankable brand. Tyra and Handprint Entertainment look forward to the opportunity to work together on existing or new ventures. ‘This is a great thing for everyone involved’,” New York Daily News quoted Medina, as saying.

Meanwhile according to a source at TelePictures, Banks was tired of Medina’s suggestions and demands.

“His perk list is bigger than hers. Everything from private jets and votive candles that the staff has to light before he gets to the set. He forgot who the star was,” the source said.

However, TelePictures rep dismissed these reports.

“We have a good relationship with Benny, and we appreciate his contributions to the show. He will continue as an executive consultant on the show,” the rep said.

Rumours are also rife that Banks newfound beau investment manager John Utendahl might have suggested for the break up, her pal has denied the speculations.

“John had nothing to do with this,” the pal said.

The Tomb Raider actress recently announced in the July issue of Esquire magazine that she is on a new task, of saving the endangered Asian tigers.

However, that doesn’t mean she’s turning a vegetarian.

“I have an animal sanctuary in Cambodia. I’ll protect the tigers. But I do like a steak. That’s my diet,” the Daily News quoted Jolie, as saying.

Jolie also said that she loses her patience when it comes to self-absorbed and superficial starlets.

Jolie’s large-scale cause-seeking started after a visit to Sierra Leone in 2001 when she “realized how completely naive I was to think I had a difficult life. Universal Orlando Resort is opening a Harry Potter theme park that will let fans visit many of the iconic locations in the books and movies that endeared the boy magician to millions.

“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” is set to open at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park in late 2009, complete with the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade village.

“The plans I’ve seen look incredibly exciting, and I don’t think fans of the books or films will be disappointed,” said author J.K. Rowling, who has been working with a creative team to make sure the park resembles the books and films.

More than a dozen artists lead by Stuart Craig, the production designer of the movies, have set up house in the studio where the movies are being filmed to make sure every detail is considered, said Scott Trowbridge of Universal.”We’re really going to the people who know this world best to ensure that level of authenticity,” he said.

The park will let visitors view the famed locations in Rowling’s magical world, like Dumbledore’s office in Hogwarts and the shops in Hogsmeade. Some locations may be in upcoming books, Trowbridge said.

Many tourists outside the theme park said the experience would boost its appeal to a younger audience.

“I’d go to Universal before I would Disney World to go on a Harry Potter ride,” said 15-year-old Alex Moran, who was visiting Orlando from Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Brandon Wilson, another 15 year old from Pleasant Hill, said he can’t get enough of Harry Potter. He has read every book and watched every movie.

“I hope we get to simulate flying like Harry Potter,” Wilson said.

Trowbridge said while there would not be any character lookalikes at the park, fans wanting to see Harry Potter and his magical friends wouldn’t leave disappointed.

“This is Harry’s world,” said Trowbridge. “Most every fan wants to have an encounter with the star of the show.”

The Harry Potter book series has been translated into 65 languages with more than 325 million copies sold in over 200 territories around the world.

The fifth film in the series, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” will be released in theaters July 13 by Warner Bros. The seventh and final book of the series will be released July 21.

Actor David Hasselhoff admitted on Thursday that he had struggled to overcome alcoholism after a videotape emerged showing him drunk.

The videotape, believed taken by his 16-year-old daughter Taylor Ann three months ago, was aired online and on several entertainment TV channels on Thursday. It showed Hasselhoff dressed in blue jeans and no shirt lying on the floor struggling to eat a hamburger.

A young female voice on the video is urging him not to drink, warning him that he could lose his role in a stage show of “The Producers” in Las Vegas if he didn’t sober up.

In a statement on Thursday published on various entertainment web sites including c Tonight, the former “Baywatch” star acknowledged he was a recovering alcoholic but did have a brief relapse.

“Despite that I have been going through a painful divorce and I have recently been separated from my children due to my work, I have been successfully dealing with my issue,” he said in the statement.

“Unfortunately, one evening I did have a brief relapse, but part of recovery is relapse.”

Hasselhoff, 54, said his two daughters from his 16-year marriage to actress Pamela Bach were concerned for him and a tape was made one night to show what he was like drunk.

“I have seen the tape. I have learned from it and I am back on my game,” he said.

“The tape was never meant to become public, but got into the hands of individuals who are not worthy of mentioning, who maliciously released the tape for their own self purpose. I hope that someone else will learn from the tape, as I have.”

Hasselhoff filed for divorce from Bach in January last year citing irreconcilable differences.

As well as Taylor Ann, they have a 14-year-old daughter, Hayley.

Hasselhoff has had a long struggle with alcohol problems. Last July, he was denied access to a flight at London’s Heathrow Airport with witnesses telling British tabloid newspapers that he was drunk. His representative explained it as illness.
