Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie expanded their family last week and we’re just now getting a look at the new additions!

The couple brought Maddox and Pax to a pet shop in France to pick out some furry buddies.

The boys bought gerbils and goldfish, and Maddox even left carrying a cactus.

Brad Pitt did not grow a mustache in vain.

Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino’s own personal World War II starring Pitt and the actor’s adorned lip, routed the weekend competition with an estimated $37.6 million gross.

The take marked the biggest opener of Tarantino’s career, and one of the biggest of Pitt’s.

Elsewhere, District 9 fell to second, but kept making its $30 million budget look like a killer investment.

Drilling down into the numbers:

• Tarantino’s previous weekend-best was Kill Bill Vol. 2’s $25 million opening.

• For Pitt, the $70 million Basterds‘ debut basically ranks just ahead of Ocean’s Thirteen’s and just below Ocean’s Eleven’s.

• District 9 grossed $18.9 million, and pushed its domestic bank account total to $73.5 million, well more than double its production budget.

• While Tarantino has recovered nicely from Grindhouse, his cohort hasn’t. Robert Rodriguez’s family film Shorts managed only $6.6 million in its debut, the weakest for Rodriguez since his film-festival breakthrough, El Mariachi.

• Welcome to the real, cruel world, Post Grad. The Alexis Bledel comedy followed in the footsteps of I Love You, Beth Cooper and Bandslam, and fell right into a hole: a $2.8 million, 10th place debut.

• (500) Days of Summer ($2.4 million), just about the only teen/twentysomething comedy to make a mark this summer, exited the Top 10 after a $22.2 million run that made very good on its reported $7.5 million budget.

• Via Twitter, Jeremy Piven wants to hear why you haven’t seen The Goods ($2.7 million), out of the Top 10 after just one not-so-good weekend.

• All Renée Zellweger needed to change her box office luck was a little George Hamilton. The Zellweger-led, Hamilton-inspired road-trip movie, My One and Only, looked big in limited release, grossing $60,708 off only four screens.

• Guess the X-Games has to be seen in person to be believed. X-Games 3D: The Movie bombed, averaging only $572 at each of its nearly 1,400 theaters.

• Did you know Ashton Kutcher was in a new movie this summer? Of course not. The gigolo-celebrating Spread made only $122,948 at 103 theaters last weekend. Grosses weren’t known yet for this weekend.

Having adequately filled the public in on his and Angie’s rampant randiness, past toking up habits and nonexistent mayoral aspirations, the one-man sound bite machine that is Brad Pitt. He is now paying lip service to a topic guaranteed to keep him (and his new movie) in the headlines: dissing former costars.

Or rather, one costar in particular.

The unexpected slam came when Pitt was promoting Inglorious Basterds by blessing the German magazine Stern with an interview and the questioner, clearly unversed in the ego-stroking required of such an activity, made the mistake of mentioning another recent Nazi-fighting flick, Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie.

“It was a ridiculous movie,” Pitt said.

We’ll give him this: The man knows how to play to his audience.

Joking that he’s “brave and stupid” to stop by Real Time With Bill Maher, Brad Pitt talks about contemplating running for office on a sure-to-lose platform of “No religion, gay marriage and legalizing pot.”

On the last topic, one of Bill’s faves, the host waxes rhapsodic about how years ago he saw Brad at a party rolling joints nonstop, like a machine, to which Brad modestly demures, “I’m an artist.” Kidding aside, Brad says he stopped smoking weed when he became a dad because he needed to be alert. Revealing himself to be a responsible and reasonable freethinker, maybe do-gooder Pitt does have a future in politics after all.

We’d already heard tell of a sexy, little grotto in their palatial pad, but now the stars are supposedly confirming its use for, ahem, alone time from all those kiddies.

According to the U.K.’s Sun, Pitt acknowledged the little spot behind the waterfall in their pool, calling it “a great place for sex.”

When asked about this at the Inglorious Basterds premiere earlier this week, Angie was frank.

With no Angelina Jolie in sight, Brad Pitt jetted into Berlin earlier today for the premiere of his new Quentin Tarantino movie, Inglourious Basterds. Sources tell us that it’s a quick, 24-hour trip that included the red carpet gala and some media for the much-buzzed about WWII flick.

Pitt looked smashing in Tom Ford, and with a glass of beer in hand, watched the screening in a seat next to Tarantino.

“He also spent loads of time signing autographs” outside the theater, an eyewitness reports.

Pitt’s next Inglourious appearance will be at the film’s Hollywood premiere on Aug. 10. No word yet if Jolie will be joining him for the festivities.

Men of few words are so mysterious and sexy, ya know?

However, as brutally handsome as Brad Pitt is, this isn’t how we’d typically describe him…until now.

The Inglorious Basterds star gave an impressively short-winded interview to German magazine Bild in which he gave some rather curious answer.

For starts, when the reporter asked him what his “wife Angelina Jolie” thought of the Quentin Tarantino film, he didn’t blink. And he definitely didn’t point out the error.

“She really likes it. She laughed a lot,” was all he said.

The questioner attempted to rattle his chain further, but still, Brad doesn’t bite.

They can’t all be home runs for Brad Pitt.

His latest project, the Steven Soderbergh-directed Moneyball, has been put into “limited turnaround” by Columbia Pictures honcho Amy Pascal after receiving a much different final draft of a script she once fought for.

Production on the film was set to start Monday in Phoenix, Ariz., and with only 96 hours to go, Soderbergh’s change in vision unsettled Pascal and the brakes were immediately applied to the project.

The “limited turnaround” gives Soderbergh the opportunity to try and settle with another studio, the aim being bigwigs such as Paramount and Warner Bros. The filmmaker has until Monday to tie down the deal, having spent the weekend with both his and Pitt’s CAA agents attempting to hit one out of the park—so to speak.

This former bodyguard to the stars is still deciding whether to dish his A-list details.

Mickey Brett, who prompted Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to put their legal team on standby just in case, tells E! News that he is still pondering whether to pen a memoir recounting his tales from the field working for such celebs as Brangelina, Tom Cruise and Sandra Bullock.

“I have not decided if I will write it or not yet,” Brett said Thursday.

The New York Daily News reported in April that Brett was shopping a ghost-written tome that, while it treated Jolie favorably, had some lesser things to say about her mate.

Beverly Hills legal eagle Martin Singer has insisted that Brett would be in violation of a confidentiality agreement if he told all about working for the Jolie-Pitt family (a tenure that included a bust for assault in Namibia and several run-ins with the paparazzi).

Singer didn’t mind spilling a few secrets, however, telling the Daily News that his clients’ ex-employee was once questioned as part of a murder investigation and was not a former British SAS commando as he once claimed.

A rep for the couple issued the nonnews Wednesday in response to the National Enquirer’s insistence that the powerful pair had split up.

She added to Britain’s Closer magazine: “I’m very organized. I don’t get stressed and I take everything in my stride. I’ve had to help Brad a bit with that part of our life!”

“The biggest problem is just lack of sleep. But all parents face that – you’re just grateful when the kids fall asleep and you can collapse on the couch together.”

Angelina has been dogged by rumors she plans to quit acting and admits she doesn’t see herself making movies forever.

She said: “I’m not as ambitious as I used to be – my family is my priority. When we get film offer, we ask ourselves, ‘Will it be good for the family?’”

“At some point I want to relax, look after my family and do more humanitarian work.”

The 45-year-old actor’s upcoming movie “Inglourious Basterds” will debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May.

Set during World War II, the film – which is directed by Quentin Tarantino – is a cross between an action/adventure movie and a spaghetti western.

The movie – which also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Mike Myers and Diane Kruger – follows a group of Jewish-American commandos who are fighting Nazis in France.

Tarantino – who won the festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or, in 1994 for “Pulp Fiction” – has been working on the film for nearly 10 years.

It is believed the director has promised the Weinstein Company and Universal the film will be ready to premiere at the French festival on May 13.

He has also allowed it to be entered in the awards section of the event. “Inglourious Basterds” is due to be released worldwide from August.

Angelina Jolie is reportedly pregnant.

The “Changeling” star has sparked rumors she is expecting another child with partner Brad Pitt after she asked for daring stunt scenes in her forthcoming movie “Salt” to be cut back.

A movie source said: “There is still some exciting action stuff – most notably when Angelina’s character is chased by snipers over the rooftops.”

“But there’s no back-flips on speeding trains and it’s all more face close-ups than action sequences.”

“Early versions of ‘Salt’ could not be shot with a woman in the early stages of pregnancy but the draft they’re shooting now can.”

Fueling the baby rumors is the fact Angelina – who already has six children with Brad, including three adopted kids – usually does her own stunts.

In “Wanted,” “Tomb Raider” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” she refused to use a stunt double for the more extreme action sequences.

The 33-year-old actress said: “It doesn’t look as real. I think the best stunts are when an audience watches it and can understand everything that’s going on and feel like they’re in the middle of the action. I love practicing stunts to get them right.”

Angelina’s role in “Salt” has already been dramatically altered since the first scripts were written.

Her part as Eveline Salt – a CIA agent who must evade capture after being framed as a Russian spy – was originally set to be played by Tom Cruise, but the role was changed to suit an actress when the “Valkyrie” star pulled out.

The “Curious Case of Benjamin Button” star received the 10lb solid dark chocolate figurine depicting his likeness to make up for losing out on an Oscar.

American magazine In Touch Weekly – which revealed Angelina was expecting twins – is also claiming the 33-year-old actress has pushed forward filming of new movie “Edwin A. Salt” to ensure her baby bump will not be visible.

However, film sources have denied the schedule has changed. Angelina’s representative has also denied the reports, claiming rumors the star is expecting are “not true.”

Both Angelina and Brad have spoken of their desire to add to their brood in recent weeks.

Last week, Angelina said: “Anything could happen. We’re open to anything, we love kids and we’re having a great time. It’s chaos in our house, but it’s so much fun. We’ll definitely have more.”

She also gave a glowing report of Brad’s skills as a father, revealing: “He’s the best daddy and we have fun, so whenever it gets hard we can just look at each other and find a way to laugh about and just appreciate that they’re only little once, and we should enjoy every minute.”
